Online national seminar on biorisk assessment and management: preparedness for future researchers
Nearly 900 participants have registered for the webinar
Chandigarh: An Online National Seminar on "Biorisk Assessment & Management: Preparedness for future researchers" has been initiated by Prof. Archana Bhatnagar, Chairperson, Department of Biochemistry, Panjab University Chandigarh on April 21, 2020. Nearly 900 participants from Jammu to Tamil Nadu, From Rajasthan and Gujarat to Assam have registered for the Webinar. In the face of the current pandemic of n COVID-19, it has become important that scientists and young researchers get training so as to make them a part of the interdisciplinary network contributing towards handling or mitigation of such agents. This specific forum consisting of Prof Archana Bhatnagar, Chairperson Dept of Biochemistry, PU, Speakers, Dr Charu Sharma, Senior Principal scientist, CSIR-IMTECH, Dr. Dipti Sareen, Associate Professor Dept. of Biochemistry, PU, Dr Dipanjan Datta, Ramalingaswamy fellow, dept of Biochemistry, PU, Dr Kakoli Biswas, HOD Biotechnology, DAV Sec 10, Chandigarh, Dr Geeta Mehra, HOD, Department of feed science, MCM DAV, Chandigarh addressed key features of Biorisk assessment and its management strategies in response to a global epidemic. Experience sharing, lessons learnt from past and safety and biosecurity considerations inherent in pathogen research, set the stage for the discussion. Experts discussed different approaches of handling such epidemics and emphasized that harmonization of biosafety, biosecurity, research and communication were necessary parameters. Prof. Bhatnagar emphasized that it is time to incorporate biosafety in the curriculum now onwards.
