Online seminar to train 5640 volunteers to facilitate elderly, PWD voters and pregnant women on June 1
The district administration on Tuesday organized a virtual seminar for the heads of over 80 teams to train around 5640 volunteers who will be deployed at 1410 polling locations on June 1, 2024.
Ludhiana, May 21,2024: The district administration on Tuesday organized a virtual seminar for the heads of over 80 teams to train around 5640 volunteers who will be deployed at 1410 polling locations on June 1, 2024.
Separate queues will be designated for persons with disabilities (PWD), elderly voters over 80-years old and pregnant women at the polling stations when voting will take place on June 1.
The District Social Security Officer, Varinder Singh Tiwana, mentioned that efforts will be made to facilitate these voters. The District Election Office has identified 16973 PWD voters and 52647 elderly voters above 80 years old in the district. There are 1410 polling locations, and four volunteers will be assigned to each to assist these specific categories of voters, he added.
Tiwana said that on the directions of District Election Officer Sakshi Sawhney, wheelchairs will be made available at all polling locations, and transportation facilities will be provided where necessary. Additionally, volunteers will provide sweetened water and ensure a comfortable environment to them so that they do not face any kind of the problem while exercising their right to franchise on that hottest day of the poll.
Additional District Election Officer Major Amit Sareen stated that district administration is aiming to ensure maximum participation of the voters and to achieve the target of more than 70 per cent voter turnout during the Lok Sabha-2024 elections. (Iss Baar, 70 Paar).
During the training session, Deputy DEO Jaswinder Singh Virk also stated that volunteers will use appropriate behavior and soft language in helping the voters.
