Chandigarh, March 8, 2022: The Department of Life Long Learning and Extension organized an online webinar to celebrate the “International Women’s Day”, today.
Dr. Parmjit Singh Kang, Chairperson, Department of Life Long Learning and Extension, delivered the talk and said that this year the theme of International Women’s Day is “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow.”
Tracing the origin and history of United Nations, Dr. Kang said that United Nations came into being as the result of War Time Conferences held during the Second World War. Dr. Kang revealed that two World Wars caused great damage to the humans and nature resources. It was felt that there must be peace if we want development. So, the objective of United Nations was declared as maintaining International Peace and Security.
Dr. Kang said that Women Development and Empowerment is most important for any family, society and country. That is why in the UN Chartered, the Charter of Human Rights and Indian Constitution, the Women’s Right are given prominent place, particularly Right to Equality. To enjoy equal right and achieve development education of woman is the most important tool. So, for the empowerment of women and development we must provide good education to the women. ‘ It is only education which can empower them and only empowered women can achieve equality and respect. So, we must make every effort to provide alongwith education skill developments which will lead to sustainable tomorrow’, he added.
International Women’s Day 2022
Chandigarh: Department of Community Education and Disability Studies of Panjab University, Chandigarh has organized the program on this International Women’s Day in the department at 11 o’clock. The event was inaugurated by the Chairperson Prof. (Dr.) Navleen Kaur. Students of the department participated in this event. In this program department conducted four activities related with the theme of the International Women’s Day 2022 “Gender Equality Today for Sustainable Development”. Following activities were conducted – Guess the Personality, MCQ Quiz, Word Play and Guess the Movie Name. Participants were very much enthusiastic and all have given their maximum contribution in the event. All enjoyed the event and also suggested that the Department should organize these kind of activities in future also. The whole event was coordinated by Mr. Nitin Raj and Mr. Tauqir Alam, Assistant Professors of the department. The event was very successfully organized by the department research scholars Kamaljit, Bikram, Sanchika and Nupur. It was great platform for the students and enlightened the student’s knowledge formal and informal way.
Mehar Chand Mahajan, Boys Hostel Number 1 in collaboration with Horticulture Division, PU organized ‘1st Hands-on training for Landscaping & Plantation of flowering plants on 8th March 2022. Prof. R. K. Dubey, an expert from the Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana delivered a special talk and provided hands-on training to all gardeners of the Panjab University. Prof. Dubey shared the tips to maximize the utilization of the unused space within the hostels and university. He highlighted the importance of landscaping for beautification and also shared detailed information about the seasonal plants. This initiative was progressively supported by the DSWs viz. Prof. Jagtar Singh, and Prof. Ashok Kumar. On this occasion, Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Warden, BH1 said that landscape elements can complement the heritage buildings of the Panjab University. We are little lacking in this component at our campus. But today’s training has definitely provided an additional thoughtful dimension, which will surely be exploited by the university gardeners in future. 45 gardeners were trained on this occasion and certificates were given to all. Er. Anil Thakur, Er Amandeep Singla assisted in the training program.
Faculty members Prof. G. R. Chaudhary and warden colleagues i.e. Dr. Bharat, Dr. Amit Chauhan, Dr.Tilak Raj, Dr Makkhan, Dr. Tamanna Sherawat, Dr, Ravneet Kaur, Dr. Avneet Kaur, Dr. Varinder Kaur and Dr. Simran Kaur graced the occasion.

The Department of Music, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated International Women’s Day to pay a special musical tribute to legendary Indian singer and Bharat Ratan vocalist Lata Mangeshkar ji on March 08. The event left the attendees fascinated. Professor Neelam Paul, Chairperson, Department of Music, faculty members and a large number of students attended the event. She said that the Music Fraternity is grateful for the immortal contribution of Lata ji to the music world. So, department of Music decided to pay special musical tribute to the legendary singer by singing her iconic songs on International Women’s Day. Professor Neelam Paul, Chairperson also appreciated office staff for organising the event.
