Only Congress can bring city back on track of development, growth: Pawan Bansal
Says BJP led Corporation brought down the city to 66th position in cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation
Chandigarh, December 15, 2021: Pawan Bansal former Union Minister while ridiculing BJP tall claims over city welfare has asserted that only Congress can bring the city back on the track of development.
While addressing a press conference at Congress office, sector 35 here on Wednesday, Bansal rubbished BJP claims and said the only work that BJP did in the last six year was to bring city ranking to 66th position from no 1 portion in Swachh Survekshan with regard to cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation.
He said,” The city has witnessed massive downfall on every field during BJP rule such as poor conditions of roads, pavements, parks. Presently we are standing at 66th position in Swachh Survekshan regarding cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation which the city achieved during the Congress regime.”
“Piles of garbage, bad to worse condition of roads, residents being crushed under heavy burden of various taxes, city famous locations being turned into protest zones thanks to anti-farmers mindset of BJP and people from all walks of life are forced to face heat of BJP misrule. Ironically BJP has falsely claimed to have made the city worth living by improving basic amenities and law and order situation, however the real situation is exactly opposite,” he stated.
“During Congress led Municipal Corporation in 2014-15, the MC had prepared a budget of Rs. 813 crore under plan head for capital expenditure and sent it to the central government for its approval, however with BJP coming in power at centre, reduced it to Rs. 610 crore only. Had it been approved for Rs. 813 as a routine, the recent city budget would have gone around 1400-1500 crore, then there would have not been any need to put extra burden on city residents by imposing unnecessary taxes, so much so, a fixed deposit over 500 crores was got redeemed by BJP ruled Corporation” he asserted.
Talking about construction of buildings outside Lal Dora in Villages, he said “since the area under villages have been merged into MC, hence there would have been no issue of lal dora therein.”
“By increasing the revenue generation from other sources as we had been doing in our previous stint, we will minimize the burden on residents imposed by the BJP led Corporation by way of tariff hikes, taxes, cesses etc.,” he stressed.
