What is the wrong with Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had a volatile career as a cricketer from 1983 to 1999 and later on took up television commentary and politics? He was later forced to resign from his political position because he was convicted of homicide but he won the by-election for his seat once he was cleared of the charges.
In fact, Sidhu is too busy with small screen shows, busy schedule with cricket commentaries and laughter shows and the ‘flying bird’ has said that party is not happy with him as he does not devote much time to his constituency. He was also a contestant in Bigg Boss 6 which he had to quit midway for the Gujarat polls despite the fact he was warned against joining it. Because of all these factors, Sidhu, who was aspiring to become the Vice President of the party, he was side-lined and declared as a non-useful member. In Punjab politics, he too was cornered because of ego clashes with Bikram Singh Majithia, a relative of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.
The wife of Sidhu has charged the party for sidelining her husband despite working hard and fielding of Independence candidates against him to defeat him in the last year’s civic elections.
It is said that Sidhu’s problems BJP’s internal problem and making grounds to replace him during the next Lok Sabha elections. Whatever may be the circumstances and reasons, the question is as to whether these celebrities come in politics for fame, name or perks?
Politics is a dangerous profession and these celebrities can become threat to the political parties and must be choosy in future while making selection in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress taking advantage of the Sidhu’s controversy, has laid out the red carpet for the fire-brand leader. Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, senior Congress leader has already said to welcome Sidhu in the party fold with remarks that “Sidhu is a right man in the wrong party”. She has even reminded him that cricketer-turned-politician’s father was a Congressman and the son should follow in his foot-steps.
In case the political parties with the intention to create vote bank in the name of these celebrities, would invite the horse trading, “aya ram gya ram”, number game in politics. Beware or Be Aware Navjot Singh Sidhu - a 'flying bird' - over to political parties.
