Religion should have no place in politics

Twenty years back, on December 6, whatever happened in Ayodhaya, was one of most distressing and stigmatized chapters in the history of India.  We cannot say that the incident brought some basic changes in the character of the religion but that was definitely a turning point.

In the early 90s, number of important things happened which entirely changed the policies of Indian politics which were on the border line but became a part of the inside the frame and changed entire concept of importance of caste in Indian politics, turned the view of the socialists and “Mandir Andolan” made the political powers more conscious who were talking about the Hindutav.

It is a matter of pleasure that some consensus became after the Babri Masjid incident.  At the same time, it is matter of concern that neither the Masjid demolishers could be punished nor the issue could be solved.  The irony of India is that the issue which cannot be solved is postponed for an indefinite period.

Now the question is as to how much we are far from our mental and social level during the last twenty years so we could realize that such incident would not happen in Indian democracy with the society.  Is there any hint of realization in the politics presently going on in India? One thing has to be admitted that something is wrong with the orthodox persons responsible for the incident.  The main culprits are fanatic of religions, who helped the followers to become more powerful.

All these problems are still existing and the in the coming time, the outcome would not be peaceful. Till such time, these anti-social elements are weak, there is no problem but with the crop up of the moral and materialistic problems, the crowd starts gathering and in such circumstances, it is the responsibility of the political powers to maintain peace and create an atmosphere so that bad elements, who are on the border line, should remain at the border line and does not enter the frame like 20 years back.  It is easy to criticize anybody but we should not forget that some blots could be seen on both sides in such incidents.
