ORDER: Ludhiana Central Co-op Bank ordered to refund Rs. 1.19 lakh with interest

Chandigarh, November 6, 2012: The State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Punjab directed to The Ludhiana Central Cooperative Bank, Ludhiana to refund Rs. 1,19,332 along with interest @9% annum to the applicant from the date of filing of the complaint. The complainant would also be entitled to Rs. 2,000 as cost of litigation.

Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the Punjab Government said that Gurjit singh grewal S/O late Bharpur Singh Grewal, resident of village Sekhewal, District Ludhiana filed the appeal that his father Bharpur Singh having a saving bank account with The Ludhiana Central Cooperative Bank, Ludhiana but after the death of Bharpur Singh his son  Gurjit Singh Grewal  was operating the said account.

The appellant generally resides in England and occasionally visits India and it was not possible for him to operate the account regularly. He came to India in 2001 and requested the bank to release  the outstanding amount Rs. 1,19,332 as he did not want to maintain the said account but the bank refused to release the amount. He again come to India in 2005 and again requested the bank to grant his dues, but        the bank replied in a consumer commission that there are bogus entries of Rs. 1 lac in the account.

The spokesman further said that during the trial the bank has not led any evidence to prove that how, when and where the bogus entries were made.

The spokesman said that after hearing both the parties the commission found negligence from the side of The Ludhiana Central Cooperative Bank  and directed to the bank to  refund Rs. 1,19,332 to the appellant with interest @ 9% p.a. from the date of filing of the complaint till and payment Rs. 2,000 are awarded as costs of litigations
