Outcome of Jalandhar parliamentary by- election to reflect on 2024 parliament elections in Doaba belt
Political parties are gearing up for the Jalandhar parliament by-election. As per the Constitution of India the election is to be conducted within six months from the date of the death of the elected representative. This by-election is an acid test for AAP and Congress. AAP is having its government in Punjab whereas the seat was earlier won by the Congress candidate. The interested contestants have already started their meetings with the cadre. Congress is hopeful that sympathy vote can give them benefit in the by-election. AAP may bank upon the reforms being carried out in the state. However, it is not the right time to predict anything at this moment. Earlier, Bhagwant Singh Mann was elected from Sangrur parliament seat but after being sworn in as chief minister Punjab he resigned from his post of member parliament and in the Sangrur by-election in 2022 SAD (Mann) registered victory. SAD (Badal) president Sukhbir Singh Badal is also touring Jalandhar parliament seat. He is trying to pacify his supporters to work hard to register win. The SAD (B) alliance with BSP may also bring a change in the political scenario. But, both the alliance partners will have to work hard. BJP national leaders and union ministers have also started visiting Jalandhar. Recently, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal visited Jalandhar and took on the spot assessment of the utilization of central funds released for the development projects. He had meeting with the party leaders and took on the spot assessment and directed the party cadre to carry on mass contact programmes. BJP leadership is likely to highlight the achievements of the Modi government in this election. The outcome of this elction will certainly reflect on the parliament elections 2024 in the Doaba belt.
