51,23,211 tonnes paddy procured in Punjab
Chandigarh, October 23, 2012: Paddy Procurement is on full swing in Punjab. Government agencies and private millers procured more than 5123211 tonnes of paddy till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1770 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy.
The spokesman of the Punjab government said that Out of total procurement of 5123211 tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 4678097 tonnes of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 445114 tonnes of paddy. Till October 22, PUNGRAIN procured 1259234 tonnes (26.9%), MARKFED procured 1066707 tonnes (22.8%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 1083502 tonnes (23.2%) PSWC procured 497022 tonnes (10.6%) whereas PAFC was able to procure 505371 tonnes (10.8%) of paddy.The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 266261 tonnes (5.7%).
The spokesman added that District Ferozpur with 589315 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Tarn Taran with 455739 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Jalandhar with 434640 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
