Paddy procurement- administration procures 47044 MT paddy
Payments worth Rs 44.82 crore made to farmers: DC Varinder Kumar Sharma
Ludhiana, October 8, 2021: Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Friday said that the district administration has so far procured 47044 metric ton (MT) paddy from grain markets in this procurement season that was started on October 3.
Divulging the details about the procurement and lifting of the paddy in the grain markets across the district, Sharma told that that till to date, a total of 51331 MT paddy has been arrived in the markets out of which 47044 MT has already been procured by various procurement agencies including Pungrain, Markfed, Punsup, Punjab State Warehouse Corporation and FCI.
He told that in last 48-hours, 100-per cent out of total procured paddy has also been lifted from the markets. Further, payments worth Rs 44.82 crore have also been made to the farmers, he added.
Deputy Commissioner said that the paddy has been cultivated on around 2.57 lakh hectare in Ludhiana and around 17.53 lakh MT paddy is expected to be arrived in the grain markets. He said that 17.28 lakh paddy was procured in district in last procurement season.
He said that the apart from 108 regular grain markets in the Ludhiana, the administration have also marked 94 temporary yards and 203 mandi yards in Mills to decongest the markets for maintaining social distancing during the operations.
He categorically said that all out efforts are being made to ensure smooth, hassle free and quick procurement of paddy on one hand and facilitate the farmers in getting timely payment of their produce on the other.
Sharma said that farmers in the district should not be put to any inconvenience for the sale of their produce in the mandis.
