Paddy procurement on full swing

Chandigarh, October 8, 2012: Paddy Procurement is on full swing in Punjab. Government agencies and private millers procured more than 440503  tonnes of paddy till last evening. 

The State Government has set up more than 1,770  procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy

The spokesman of the Punjab government said that Out of total procurement of 4,40,503 tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 2,77,176 tonnes of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 1,63,327 tonnes of paddy. Till October 7, PUNGRAIN procured 71,040 tonnes (25.6%), MARKFED procured 65,029 tonnes (23.5%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 55,340 tonnes (20.0%) PSWC procured 16,270  tonnes (5.9%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 30,445 tonnes (11.0%) of paddy. The Central Government agency FCI had  been able to procure 39,052  tonnes (14.1%). 

The spokesman added that District Tarn Taran with 1,08,241 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Amritsar with 66,293 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Kapurthla with 62,647  tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
