Paddy procurement in full swing

Chandigarh, October 10, 2012: Paddy Procurement is on full swing in Punjab. Government agencies and private millers procured more than 953084  tonnes of paddy till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1770  procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy

The spokesman of the Punjab government said that Out of total procurement of 953084 tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 742963 tonnes of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 210121 tonnes of paddy. Till October 9, PUNGRAIN procured 194136  tonnes (26.1%), MARKFED procured 177593 tonnes (23.9%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 163782 tonnes (22.0%) PSWC procured 52880  tonnes (7.1%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 82089 tonnes (11.0%) of paddy.The Central Government agency FCI had  been able to procure 72533  tonnes (9.8%). 

The spokesman added that District Tarn Taran with 213535 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Kapurthla with 121655 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Amritsar with 116256  tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
