PADDY PROCUREMENT: Ludhiana District Leads in Punjab

Chandigarh, November 7, 2012: Paddy Procurement is on full swing in Punjab. State procurement agency PUNGRAIN achieved first position in paddy procurement. PUNGRAIN procured 3280068, the 29.4 per cent of the total procurement of the state, till November 6.

Government agencies and private millers procured more than 11716604 tonnes of paddy till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1770  procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy.

The spokesman of the Punjab government said that Out of total procurement of 11716604 tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 11148030 tonnes of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 568574 tonnes of paddy. Till November 6, PUNGRAIN procured 3280068  tonnes (29.4%), MARKFED procured 2517858  tonnes (22.2%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 2555812 tonnes (22.9%) PSWC procured 1141636  tonnes (10.2%) whereas PAFC was able to procure 1148824 tonnes (10.3%) of paddy. The Central Government agency FCI had  been able to procure 503832 tonnes (4.5%). 

The spokesman added that District Ludhiana with 1349036 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Sangrur  with 1247556 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Patiala with 1124464  tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
