PADDY PROCUREMENT: Ludhiana still leads in Punjab

Chandigarh, October 31, 2012: Paddy Procurement is on full swing in Punjab. Government agencies and private millers procured more than 9214841  tonnes of paddy till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1770  procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy.

The spokesman of the Punjab government said that Out of total procurement of 9214841  tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 8694550 tonnes of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 520291  tonnes of paddy. Till October 30, PUNGRAIN procured 2495476  tonnes (28.7%), MARKFED procured 1977158  tonnes (22.7%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 2016966 tonnes (23.2%) PSWC procured 895299 tonnes (10.3%) whereas PAFC was able to procure  911481 tonnes (10.5%) of paddy.The Central Government agency FCI had  been able to procure 398170  tonnes (4.6%). 

The spokesman added that District Ludhiana with 911409 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Patiala  with 890728  tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Moga with 807599  tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
