Ferozepur, September 13, 2022: During his visit to this border district today, Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit said that Pakistan can never beat India in a direct war so Pakistan is smuggling drugs, firearms and ammunition as a part of its proxy war against India. While interacting with the media persons, the Governor said that our neighbour cannot fight directly so it has been adopting various tactics to weaken our young generations which include smuggling of drugs.
The Governor had come to this border district to interact with the Sarpanch and Panch of various villages of this border district.
The Governor also raised his concern over illegal mining taking place near border villages and said that illegal mining is the one of the biggest security threats in border districts. He said that anyone involved in illegal mining, should be booked for treachery and sedition for jeopardizing national security. “Few of the officials from BSF and Army have brought to my notice that due to illegal mining, the security of border areas is in danger as due to mining, the BSF posts may got damaged. There are several other things which cannot be discussed but at any cost, the illegal mining should be stopped”, said Governor Purohit.
“The police officials posted in the border districts, who had been working at the same place for the last several years, should be transferred on regular basis keeping in view the security concern. I have also discussed this issue with the Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav”, said Governor while addressing the media persons.
“It is also the duty of the residents of the border villages to inform police if any kind of unusual or movement near the border. I would also suggest that all the villages situated near the border belts, must constitute 11 member “Nagrik Suraksha Committee”, which will ensure that nothing wrong takes place in their village and if anything happens, they will inform the concerned officials”, said Governor.
The governor ensured that he will take up the matters related to development in the border villages to the higher authorities. “I will discuss with the Union Defence Minister that the percentage for the youths belonging to these border districts for recruitment in army under Agniveer scheme should be increased in comparison to other areas besides some industry should also be setup in these areas”, he added.
On this occasion, Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua, DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, Principal Secretary J M Balamurugan, Commissioner Faridkot Division Chander Gaind, IG PK Yadav, MLA Ferozepur (Rural) Rajnish Dahiya, MLA Ferozepur (Urban) Ranbir Bhullar, MLA Zira Naresh Kataria, Deputy Commissioner Amrit Singh, SSP Surinder Lamba , senior BJP leader Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi and others were present.
