Chandigarh, September 1, 2012: Chunni Lal Bhagat Minister for Local Bodies today issued directions that only those Panchayats would be elevated as Nagar Panchayats that would meet the set norms and obtain the concerned Panchayat's approval.

Presiding over a meeting of the department to review the working of all Municipal Corporations, Municipal Committees and Panchayats, he categorically said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has ordered to obtain the permission of concerned Panchayat before its elevation as Nagar Panchayat to check the unplanned expansion of urban sprawls.

While monitoring the working of the department he instructed the officers to continue development works and complete them in stipulated time period. He said that it was the duty of officers to monitor the quality of work being executed and any compromise over quality would not be tolerated. He also instructed them to spend the allotted budget in the given time frame. He ordered to chalk out a special campaign to remove the un authorized colonies in the state.

The Minister urged the officers to generate revenue through plugging the loopholes. He said that a gainful amount of revenue could be generated by the installation of hordings and putting up of advertisement on walls and important places of the respective towns. He said that before putting up any advertisement in the city officers must adhere to the set guidelines so that the city character and its beauty remain intact. He said that hoarding at the National Highways must not cause any hindrance to the traffic.
