Panjab University celebrated its foundation day today
To commemorate its establishment i.e. 14th October, 1882 at Lahore (Now in Pakistan), Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated its foundation day today. On this occasion foundation day lecture was delivered by Dr Jatinder Kumar Bajaj, founding Director of Centre for policy Studies Chennai and Delhi in the University Auditorium. For his consistent work of national significance, he was conferred Padma Shri award in 2022.
Chandigarh, October 14, 2023: To commemorate its establishment i.e. 14th October, 1882 at Lahore (Now in Pakistan), Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated its foundation day today. On this occasion foundation day lecture was delivered by Dr Jatinder Kumar Bajaj, founding Director of Centre for policy Studies Chennai and Delhi in the University Auditorium. For his consistent work of national significance, he was conferred Padma Shri award in 2022.
Prof. Bajaj started his Foundation Day lecture by giving tribute to the founders and intellectual ancestors of the University. He presented reminiscences of his long association with the Panjab University. Remembering about his initial years at Panjab University, he highlighted many things that are integral part of university student’s life such as A.C. Joshi Library, Student Centre, Indian Coffee House and Hostel life. He highlighted that he firmly believes that his present achievements are, in part, a result of what he read in the library during his academic journey.
In his talk, he discussed about the expansion of education in India and also the role of Universities in the Nation building. He emphasised on how the universities can become the essential and integral part of the fast-evolving story of India by carrying out micro level research on the cultural and natural resources. He also stressed on the importance of Indian Knowledge System and Civilizational Values.
On this occasion, Prof. Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor, elaborated the glorious history and illustrious alumni of the Panjab University. She urged every stakeholder to work hard in the right direction and counselled students to study and work hard in achieving their goals.
In her concluding remarks, Prof. Rumina Sethi, elaborated on the Philisophy of Guru Rabindranath Tagore and the Vision of One great Nation. She stressed on the need to have fusion of various disciplines and inculcating the spirit of “Oneness” in the University.
This lecture was part of the ongoing monthly Colloquium series coordinated by Dr. Monica Munjial and Dr. Shweta Sharma. The event was presided over by the Panjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig. Prof. M. P. Khanna was the Guest of Honor. The lecture was graced by the additional Solicitor General of India Dr. Satya Pal Jain, Ex-VC Prof. Arun K. Grover and Prof. R. C. Sobti, Dean University Instructions Prof. Rumina Sethi and Director Research & Promotion Cell Prof. Harsh Nayyar.
