On this occasion a lecture by Dr Jatinder Kumar Bajaj, founding Director of Centre for policy Studies Chennai and Delhi will be organized at 12:00 noon in the University Auditorium. He will speak on “The University and the Nation”. Dr Bajaj is an alumnus of Panjab University, he obtained his graduate, post graduate and PhD degree in physics from PU campus. Panjab University foundation day lecture was commenced in 2012 but due to the pandemic, lectures from 2020 to 2022 could not be held. This lecture on 14th October, 2023 is the 9th lecture in this series. This lecture also forms a part of the Panjab University Colloquium series.
Dr Bajaj was a member of the commission to examine sub-categorisation of the Other Backward Classes, the third national commission set-up by the President of India under article 340 of the Constitution of India. Dr. Bajaj has conceived and led a programme to prepare micro-level resource atlases that graphically document the distinct attributes of the land and people of every district and locality of India. Dr. Bajaj is serving as a member of the Governing Councils and Advisory Committees of several apex organisations under the Government of India in the fields of education, social sciences and science & technology. He was a member of the national committee to Commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and is a member of the National Committee for Azadi ka Amrita Mahotsava. For his consistent work of national significance, he was conferred The Padma Shri award in 2022 by the President of India.
