Panjab University hands over germicidal chambers to DIG Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Contributing to the effort of combating COVID-19, The Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Professor Raj Kumar handed over a germicidal sanitization  chamber to Sh. Omvir  Singh Bishnoi, IPS, DIG and Sh. Virat, IPS, AIG, Jail, Chandigarh Police.  Dr. Ramesh Sharma who has designed and developed this chamber  explained  about the safety features and functioning of the chamber. This chamber can disinfect the articles within a few minutes.  Sh. Omvir Singh appreciated the contribution of SAIF/CIL  Panjab University in the difficult time of pandemic. Prof. Raj Kumar informed that the CIL/SAIF headed by Prof. G R Chaudhary  is one of the best analytical centres in India and is now focusing to contribute to society by developing products as per present requirements. Prof. R. K singla, DUI and Prof. V R Sinha Dean Research were also present on the occasion.  
This UV radiation Chamber is designed in two versions consisting of a single cabin and double cabin. It is coated with a  special reflecting metallic coating to enhance the efficiency of chamber many folds and incorporates safety features to avoid any exposure to skin or eyes of the operator, informed Dr Sharma. He added that the chamber is developed with a capacity of 220Litres/120 Litres.It cannot operate if door is open and has a radiation safe window to see inside.It can sanitize the surface of any article placed in it for a few minutes e.g. papers, files,  office articles, mobile phones, keys, pens and virtually any article which can fit into chamber.  
 It was shared that CIL/SAIF is developing a few more products to fight this Pandemic.
