Panjab University Hosts Annual Sports Meet 2025 for CDOE Distance Learners
The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised its Annual Sports Meet 2025 at the Panjab University Sports Ground today. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from distance learners, who actively engaged in various sports activities, showcasing their skills, teamwork, and competitive spirit.

Chandigarh, February 18, 2025: The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised its Annual Sports Meet 2025 at the Panjab University Sports Ground today. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from distance learners, who actively engaged in various sports activities, showcasing their skills, teamwork, and competitive spirit.
The sports meet was inaugurated by PU Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma and esteemed sportsperson Darshan Lamba, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guests. Their inspiring words motivated the participants to embrace sports as an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Dean Student Welfare Prof. Amit Chauhan and Dean Student Welfare (Women) Prof. Simrit Kahlon graced the closing ceremony where the best male and female athletes of the meet were announced.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Y.P. Verma emphasised the invaluable qualities that sports instill in individuals, stating, "Sports are not just about physical fitness; they teach us crucial life skills such as teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and resilience. These qualities help individuals excel not only on the field but also in their personal and professional lives. It is heartening to see students actively participating and embodying these values."
The event featured an array of track and field competitions, including the 100m, 200m, and 400m races, as well as the 4x100m relay race. Participants also competed in the long jump and discus throw events. To enhance engagement and promote camaraderie, fun activities such as the three-legged race, lemon and spoon race, and tug of war were conducted. Additionally, innovative one-minute games like sit-ups and ball tapping were introduced to address concerns related to mobile addiction and drug abuse among students, emphasising the importance of agility and endurance.
The overwhelming response to both online and on-the-spot registrations highlighted the enthusiasm of the students towards integrating physical activities into their academic journey. The participants demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship, and the winners were felicitated with medals and certificates by Prof. Y.P. Verma and Ms. Darshan Lamba, celebrating their achievements and dedication.
CDOE Director, Prof. Harsh Gandhar, lauded the efforts of the organising team and participants, emphasising the significance of sports in holistic education. She reiterated CDOE’s commitment to providing distance learners with opportunities that promote physical well-being and community engagement.
The event was successfully coordinated by Dr. Sucha Singh (Convener), Dr. Anil Kumar (Co-Convener), Dr. Rajni, and Dr. Kamala, who managed various activities, including stage coordination, medal distribution, and refreshments. Dr. Harmail Singh, Convener of the Students’ Support Committee, extended a vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective efforts of the faculty, non-teaching staff, and volunteers in making the event a grand success.
