The Department of Computer Science & Applications (DCSA) Panjab University Chandigarh organized one-day National Workshop on Natural Language Processing (NLP) on Wednesday.
Chandigarh, March 27, 2024: The Department of Computer Science & Applications (DCSA) Panjab University Chandigarh organized one-day National Workshop on Natural Language Processing (NLP) on Wednesday.
The event was inaugurated by Professor Harsh Nayyar, Director, Research and Development Cell,Punjab University who stressed on the need to design and develop language models for interdisciplinary research.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Rohini Sharma, Chairperson of DCSA, and Dr. SudhirGoyal, System Manager at DCSA with the objective to impart knowledge on Natural Language Processing to diverse audience freely. The workshop attracted around 400 participants from 18 states and outside India as well. The audience comprises of working faculty, research scholars and students from academia and people from Industry as well.
First speaker Prof. Parteek Bhatia, from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala and Visiting faculty at Whitman College, Washington, USA delivered an enlightening session on NLP's role in Generative AI. He gave practical demonstrations on Translation, Summarization, Object detection and Audio generation. Dr. Mahamad Suhil, an applied scientist at Amazon Ads, provided an overview of Large Language Models (LLMs) and their Applications, offering attendees practical knowledge on AI applications.
The workshop, fostering meaningful discussions among students, scholars, and faculty members, served as a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and learning.
