Panjab University, Chandigarh today observed Martyrs’ Day to pay tributes to father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and honor the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives in the national freedom struggle.

Chandigarh, January 30, 2025: Panjab University, Chandigarh today observed Martyrs’ Day to pay tributes to father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and honor the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives in the national freedom struggle.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig, officers and staff of the University, observed two minutes silence in memory of those who sacrified their lives during struggle for India's freedom. Faculty members, research scholars, students, and non-teaching staff gathered to pay tribute, and a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for the martyrs and their invaluable contributions.

Similarly, the Department of Library and Information Science, Department of Life Long Learning and Extension and various other departments of the University observed Martyrs’ Day to honor the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives for the nation.

Prof. Rupak Chakravarty, Chairperson, Department of Library and Information Science led the commemoration by paying his respects and speaking about the significance of freedom and the sacrifices made to achieve it. He emphasised that the rights and opportunities we enjoy today are a result of the struggles and dedication of countless individuals. He encouraged everyone to uphold the values of patriotism, integrity, and responsibility in their daily lives. The event served as a reminder of the courage and selflessness of the martyrs, inspiring everyone to contribute positively to society.

Dr. Parmjit Singh Kang, Chairperson, Department of Life Long Learning & Extension elaborated on the memory of Freedom Fighters who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for India’s Freedom.
