Panjab University organised Bharti Bhasha Utsav
To commemorate the birth anniversary of the distinguished Tamil poet, journalist, and freedom fighter Shri Subramania Bharati, the School of Punjabi Studies at Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised the Bharti Bhasha Utsav. The celebration featured the Yuva Kavi Darbar and the “Meri Bhasha, Mera Dastkhat” initiative, held at the Mohan Singh Diwana Seminar Hall in PU Campus.
Chandigarh, December 13, 2024: To commemorate the birth anniversary of the distinguished Tamil poet, journalist, and freedom fighter Shri Subramania Bharati, the School of Punjabi Studies at Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised the Bharti Bhasha Utsav. The celebration featured the Yuva Kavi Darbar and the “Meri Bhasha, Mera Dastkhat” initiative, held at the Mohan Singh Diwana Seminar Hall in PU Campus.
The event brought together young poets from various departments of Panjab University, including Gurdeep Singh, Daya Singh, Harjeetinder Singh, Santosh Kaur, Vishal Thakur, Harinder Firaq, Amandeep Kaur, Harveer Kaur Sidhu, Hardeep Singh, Jashanpreet Kaur, and Manpreet Kaur, who captivated the audience with their poems and songs.
Dr. Parmjeet Kaur Sidhu from the Punjabi Department opened the program with an insightful introduction to the life and legacy of Shri Subramania Bharati. She also highlighted the significance of the Indian Language Festival, aligned with the Government of India’s 'Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat' initiative.
Professor Yograj Angrish, Head of the Department, paid tribute to the poet’s immense contributions to national unity, integrity, and the Indian freedom movement. He underscored the importance of preserving linguistic diversity while promoting unity and committed to hosting monthly literary events in local languages.
Special guests at the event included Dr. Sunita Sharma from the Sanskrit Department, Punjabi writer Harpreet Singh Channu, Prof. Uma Sethi from the Punjabi Literary Studies Department, Dr. Sukhjeet Kaur, Dr. Satveer Singh from the Department of Punjabi, Dr.Baljeet Kaur from the French Department, and other department researchers.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the young poets. In a powerful display of solidarity for their mother tongue, all attendees, including researchers, students, and faculty, participated in the "Meri Bhasha, Mera Dastkhat" campaign by signing in Punjabi, reaffirming their commitment to the promotion and preservation of their native languages.
