Panjab University, Chandigarh, has launched an awareness campaign to highlight the harmful effects of tobacco, enforce tobacco-free regulations, and remove tobacco vendors from the university’s vicinity.

Chandigarh, February 27, 2025: Panjab University, Chandigarh, has launched an awareness campaign to highlight the harmful effects of tobacco, enforce tobacco-free regulations, and remove tobacco vendors from the university’s vicinity.

The initiative, led by Sh. Vikram Singh, Chief of University Security, PU Chandigarh, was organized by the PU Security Office with support from the Generation Savior Association (GSA) and the Tobacco Control Cell, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the SHO, Police Station 11, Chandigarh, and the In-Charge, Police Post Sector 14, PU.

As part of the campaign, warning boards and notices were installed at various public places across the university campus in accordance with the law. Additionally, bidi, cigarette, and other tobacco vendors operating along the university boundary were informed about the tobacco-free educational institution guidelines, and the university security team took necessary action to remove them from within a 100-yard radius of the campus.

A key highlight of the event was the pledge taken by university security staff to strictly enforce tobacco-free regulations within the university premises and to abstain from consuming any tobacco products themselves.
In a firm step towards ensuring compliance, Chandigarh Police officials issued seven challans against violators of the tobacco ban on campus, reinforcing their commitment to a cleaner and healthier educational environment.
