Panjab University to host International Workshop on Climate-Compatible Growth

Chandigarh, December 3, 2024: The Department of Environment Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Climate Compatible Growth Network, United Kingdom, and The British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh, is organising a significant two-day Workshop on Climate Compatible Growth (CCG) Programme on December 5-6, 2024, at the Hyatt Centric, Chandigarh. The CCG Programme is supported by the Government of UK and supports countries to develop strategies, plans and policies to foster low-carbon growth opportunities.

The workshop will bring together experts, policymakers, researchers, and various stakeholders to advance climate compatible sustainable development in India. The workshop looks to address three critical areas through focused technical sessions on Green Energy, Sustainable Agriculture and Climate-Smart Cities. It will explore how research on Climate Compatible Growth can foster inclusive and sustainable economic growth in various critical sectors while identifying possibilities for future collaboration beyond the workshop. Expert presentations, interactive discussions and breakout sessions have been designed to generate innovative strategies and actionable solutions for addressing the region's unique climate and sustainability challenges.

This collaborative initiative reflects the shared commitment of Panjab University, the CCG Network UK, and the British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh, to work collaboratively to identify challenges and identify opportunities for future research and action for sustainable development and climate action in Northern India.

Professor Ramanjit Kaur Johal and Professor Suman Mor, Panjab University and Coordinators of the North India Climate Compatible Growth Network believe that this workshop is a significant step toward regional collaboration for sustainable, climate-resilient development, ensuring economic growth while fostering environmental stewardship.
