Paragliding will be ensured under supervision of security personnel: DC

Dharamsala, April 2, 2022: Paragliding will not be allowed in Kangra district till parameters of safe paragliding are not met with. Informing this Deputy Commissioner Dr Nipun Jindal said that under the Disaster Management Act, paragliding is currently banned in Kangra district.
Dr Jindal said, “Paragliding will be ensured under the supervision of security personnel in Bir Billing and Indrunag near Dharamsala in Kangra district. Required documents including the pilot's registration for paragliding will be checked by the security personnel, paragliding will be allowed only on completion of the required documents. For this, all the information will also be listed in a register.”
Deputy Commissioner Dr Nipun Jindal while presiding over a meeting to determine the parameters of safe paragliding in Dharamsala on Saturday said that keeping in mind the safety of the tourists, orders have been given to meet the parameters of safe paragliding. Only after the criteria are met, the reconsideration of starting paragliding will be done.
He said that rates for paragliding have also been fixed in Dharamsala and Bir Billing through local technical and regulatory committees. Apart from this, no parking zones have also been marked at the landing site. He said that a provision of log book has also been made for the paragliding pilot so that a pilot cannot conduct more flights per day than scheduled.
He said that the District Tourism Development Officer has been asked to ensure the registration of all paragliding operators and pilots, along with registration arrangements have also been made to give unique codes.
He said, “Testing and certification of paragliding equipment has been made mandatory by the technical committee under HP Aero Sports Rules. With the concurrence of the Paragliding Association, a local technical and regulatory committee has been constituted, whose meeting has also been held under the chairmanship of the concerned SDM and this committee will monitor suitable weather and other security arrangements regarding paragliding.”
Today’s meeting was also attended by ADM Rohit Rathore, Deputy Director Tourism Vinay Kumar, SDM Baijnath, SDM Dharamsala and office bearers of Paragliding Association
Paragliding was banned till further orders in Kangra by the Deputy Commissioner on March 10 this year, two days after the death of two persons in an accident at the Bir-Billing paragliding site.
