PARAMETERS: Punjab constitutes committee to implement who's parameters in slaughter houses

Chandigarh, October 23, 2012: The Punjab Government has constituted a committee to monitor the proper working and cleanliness of slaughter houses in the state.

While disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of Local Bodies Department said that Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary and Ashok Kumar Gupta, Director of Local Bodies Department would be the Chairman and Member Secretary of the committee, respectively. He said that the committee would comprise Principal Secretaries of Health and Family Welfare Department, Labour Department and Environment Department, Financial Commissioner, Animal Husbandry, Food Safety Commissioner or any representative of GoI, Chairman or representative of Punjab Pollution Control Board, Director General of Police or representative, Director, Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Commissioners of all Municipal Corporations, Regional Deputy Directors, Local Bodies Department and Managing Director, Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, while the state government would nominate two ex-officio members in the committee.

The spokesperson further said that it has been made mandatory for the committee to meet at least once in three months. He said that the committee has been entrusted upon the responsibilities of monitoring the slaughter houses and ensuring the implementation of high standard of health and hygiene. Besides this, the committee would direct slaughter houses time to time and ensure cleanliness in and around the premises of slaughter houses as per the parameters of World Health Organization (WHO), so that no disease could outbreak.

The committee would be authorises to inspect the slaughter house time to time. Finding any loophole in maintaining cleanliness in and around the premises of the slaughter houses, the committee would recommend departmental action against the erring slaughter houses.
