With a storyline that perfectly encapsulates the daily struggles of a middle-class family, Sony SAB’s Wagle Ki Duniya - Nayi Peedhi Naye Kissey is highlighting issues faced by women that are often turned a blind eye to. Sakhi (Chinmayee Salvi) takes up a part time job to repay for her friend’s lost laptop and finds herself in a tricky situation when her boss (Bhakhtyar Irani) makes an inappropriate advance on her after altering her drink.

Pariva Pranati (Vandana Wagle) and Chinmayee Salvi both talk about the challenges of being a woman in the industry and filming the scene with sensitivity.

Talking about women’s safety, Pariva Pranati said, “Being a woman in the industry is daunting to begin with. Having to constantly ensure you’re not implicating yourself while doing your job is a challenge a lot of women face, many unsuccessfully. The sad reality is that at some point or another, every woman has been taken undue advantage of and been unable to speak up or retaliate in a sense that was true to her. Tackling an issue that requires immense sensitivity is a challenge in itself and Wagle Ki Duniya has taken it head on and handled it with integrity as always. While we were shooting for the sequence, the entire unit was very emotional.  I believe it is important to respect and protect women in order to evolve as a society and ensure we celebrate each other in every sense. Strict action should be taken against offenders, and nobody should hesitate to speak up. We will believe you.”

Talking about filming the scene, Chinmayee Salvi said, “Filming the scene was an emotional experience to say the least. I was undoubtedly made to feel very comfortable by Bhakhtyar Sir and the rest of the crew, but the scene did leave an impact. The fact that women go through this on a daily basis in some way or another makes me gravely sad but also extremely angry. There are so many unheard voices and untold tales of a woman’s modesty being outraged that it has settled into being a norm. Instead of blaming the perpetrator, we often blame the victim; picking apart their character, their choice of outfits, the way they talk and the choices they make. I think we as a society need to take a long hard look at ourselves and restructure our priorities when it comes to women's safety. I am extremely privileged to have a platform where I can not only talk about but also shed light on topics that need our immediate attention and am grateful to Wagle Ki Duniya for continuing to uplift and empower women while creating awareness on the harsh realities we as a society continue to face.”

Stay tuned to Wagle Ki Duniya every Monday to Saturday 9 PM only on Sony SAB.
