Park Hospital Mohali Heart Surgeon Uses Self-Named World’s First Innovative Technique To Save Patient

Mohali, June 12, 2024: Ranjeet Singh (name changed) – a 45 year old businessman from Chandigarh – was in trouble. His right lung was infected with a fungus which had destroyed it. He was getting blood in cough and on investigations was found to have a severe destructive fungal infection. He was referred to Dr Harinder Singh Bedi – Director of Cardio Thoracic Sciences at the Grecian Park Hospital Mohali. Dr Bedi has operated such cases earlier and he realized that if untreated – the fungus would start invading the body which could be fatal. He was planned for a major lung resection surgery. The destroyed lung was resected. During surgery Dr Bedi found that the tissues were very much inflamed. There was a high risk that the suture line could leak producing a dangerous complication called a bronco pleural fistula (BPF).

To prevent this Dr Bedi has developed a totally  new technique which he has presented at National and International conferences and in fact has been published in an International journal (World Journal of Cardio Vascular Surgery) by his name – ‘Bedi-IMA’ buttress technique. This technique uses the patient’s own tissues to strengthen the suture line. It has been accepted by the International Community of Cardio Thoracic Surgeons.
The patient made a good recovery, said Dr Bedi.

It may be mentioned here that The Grecian Park Hospital is a part of  the  chain of the Park Group – a chain of 15 super speciality  hospitals all over India.
