Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) in association with AICTE Training and Learning Academy, has commenced a one-week Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Intellectual Property Rights: Fostering Research and Entrepreneurship’.

Jalandhar, January 31, 2025: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) in association with AICTE Training and Learning Academy, has commenced a one-week Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Intellectual Property Rights: Fostering Research and Entrepreneurship’. 

The program aims to equip educators with the knowledge and tools needed to foster research, innovation, and entrepreneurship among students. The session for the second day of the FDP was graced by Mr Shibananda Dash, Director of Startups and Innovation at the Munjal BCU Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MBCIE), Ludhiana, as the subject expert. The title of Mr. Dash’s talk was Commercialisation of IP. He discussed that the commercialisation of intellectual property transforms innovative ideas and creations into marketable products or services, driving economic growth and fostering entrepreneurship. 

The technical session for the third day began with a warm welcome of the resource person Dr. Kapil Arya, Principal Scientist CSIR IPU New Delhi. Dr.Arya delivered a lecture on 'IPR Overview - Essentials of Patent'. He discussed the need for intellectual property rights to prevent infringement, minimise needless investment, improve the innovation index and for monetary benefits to the inventor. He provided deep insight into details of industrial design, trademark, copyright, geographical indications and patents citing relevant examples. 

The first technical session began with a warm welcome from the resource person Prof. (Dr.) Girish Sapra, Managing Director & CEO- GreenBrigade Pvt. Ltd., Jalandhar. Dr. Sapra delivered a lecture on ‘Fostering Creativity and Innovation’. He provided information about various agencies in India and especially Punjab that fund start-ups.  He discussed the fundamentals of creativity and innovation in product and process development which is a pivotal 21st-century skill. He further provided in-depth information about the essentials of design thinking. He also discussed different tools to help convert ideas into a successful startup. The session was an amalgamation of interaction, hands-on training and real-life experience that was well received by the participants. The resource person in the second technical session was Advocate Govind Preet Singh, a Serial Entrepreneur. He delivered a talk on the topic  'IP Significance in the Value Creation of a Start-up and IP Commercialization. 

Singh began his lecture by explaining the significance of patents, copyrights, trademarks and GI tags in branding and commercialisation by citing relevant examples. He further added that Startups play a crucial role in driving innovation and economic growth, and at the heart of their success lies value creation through unique products, services, or solutions that meet customer needs. 

Principal lauded the efforts of the whole organising committee for successfully organising the FDP.
