Chandigarh, January 28, 2013: The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Shivraj V. Patil today fired the inaugural shot to mark the inauguration of 300 meter shooting range at Patiala-ki-Rao shooting range here today and handed it over to the Nation.

Speaking on the occasion, Patil asked senior civil and police officer to put in your efforts to further develop and equip this range with all latest and modern facilities to make this one of the best shooting range in the region if not in the country. He assured that all the resources and funds would be provided for the same without any delay.

He said that he was told that for practice some special kind of weapon were required. He said besides weapons simulators were also required which would help in making practice process more easier and practice cost will also come down.

Patil stressed upon imparting weapon training to police personals. He said that he had discussed with senior Army officers to impart training to police personals in defusing bombs and in other fields. He asked the senior police officers to identify the officers and jawans and impart them training in such a way that they should be psychologically and electronically perfect in handling and using weapons.

SSP, UT, Chandigarh, Naunihal Singh showed some weapons to the Governor and requested to introduce these weapons in Chandigarh Police. Accepting his suggestion, Patil asked Home Secretary UT, Chandigarh to purchase these weapons for Chandigarh Police to equip Chandigarh Police with latest and modern weapons.

Patil said that weapons should be a part of the body. He said if body and mind are not tuned with weapon it will not give you the desired results for which practice and training is required.

Showing keen interest, Patil visited all other shooting ranges in the complex and asked to complete undergoing works in a stipulated times.

Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included K.K. Sharma, Advisor to Administrator, Alok Kumar, Inspector General of Police, M.P. Singh, Principal Secretary to Governor, Anil Kumar, Home Secretary, V.K. Singh, Finance Secretary, R.S. Ghuman, SSP(Operation), UT, Chief Architect and other civil and police officers.
