Patriotic fervor marked the 77th Independence Day at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, while unfurling the national flag, paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters who freed the nation from the clutches of 200 years of colonial rule, and sacrificed their lives to attain independence for the country.

Ludhiana, August 16, 2023: Patriotic fervor marked the 77th Independence Day at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, while unfurling the national flag, paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters who freed the nation from the clutches of 200 years of colonial rule, and sacrificed their lives to attain independence for the country.
“The path was not smooth as hunger and starvation still loomed large during post-partition. But the unwavering commitment and unwearied hard work of farmers and agricultural scientists made the nation self-reliant in food production with the steering of Green Revolution. I salute our Punjab’s farming community and agri-stalwarts also who bolstered the national food bowl,” said Dr Gosal.

Extending heartiest felicitations to PAU, its scientists and student fraternity for enabling this prestigious University to garner top position in the national rankings of 2023, the PAU VC exhorted the youths to carry forward this legacy with full dedication. Youth is the future of this nation, he said, while urging the students to develop deep-rooted ties with Punjab and India’s soil as well as fulfil the aspirations and hopes of our great Indian leaders.

Advocating crop diversification, he stressed on promoting value addition and agro-processing for financial benefits.
Dr Nirmal Jaura, Director Students’ Welfare, while welcoming the dignitaries, senior officials faculty, staff and students of PAU, said that this was a historic moment for India as the nation got freedom from British rule as well as famine. “Nowadays, the country calls for freedom from drug menace,” he stressed, while advising the youths to stay away from all vices and be on the right track of life.
