PAU Agricultural Engineering Students shine at national level competition-TIFAN
25 students of the college of Agricultural Engineering (COAET), named COAETian Innovators, of the 2019 batch have won the Runners-up position in the National Level Competition - ‘TIFAN 2022’.
Ludhiana, June 13, 2022: 25 students of the college of Agricultural Engineering (COAET), named COAETian Innovators, of the 2019 batch have won the Runners-up position in the National Level Competition - ‘TIFAN 2022’, a national level Technology Innovation Forum for Agricultural Nurturing organised by SAE India (Society of Automotive Engineers - India) and John Deere Limited, Pune. The theme for this year’s student activity was development of a ‘Self Propelled Onion Harvester’.
At a felicitation ceremony organized by the college, Dean, Dr Ashok Kumar while congratulating the team for their whole hearted efforts in design, fund raising, marketing etc, motivated them to strive for greater heights through hard work and consistency. He further divulged that the national level competition included students from all engineering across the country. 28 teams cleared the first round which included assessment and viability of their designs, mainly in virtual mode. However, the second round included performance of the prototypes based on strict parameters including manoeuvrability, braking, and field performance, damage to crop etc.
The COAETian Innovators passed through a lot of testing times during this 10 month process. Balancing the classes along with development of the machine, arranging finances and parts for putting their idea into a working prototype
Mr Arshdeep Singh, Captain of COAETian Innovators team explained the design and working of the onion harvester and shared the gruel behind the students’ manifestation of ideas into practically applicable solutions, thus exhibiting their scientific temperament and maturity.
In the nation-wide engineering virtual rendezvous and felicitation, these PAU students were declared the runners up, with the Maharashtra team from the Amrutvahini College of Engineering lifting the trophy. Apart from mentoring by John Deere India, the team was coached and mentored by faculty of COAE, Dr Rohnish Khurana, Dr Satish Gupta, Dr Anoop Dikshit and Dr Mahesh Narang.
