PAU CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY - NUTRITION AND YOGA: FOUNDATION TO HOLISTIC HEALTH

Ludhiana, June 21, 2023:

The Department of Food and Nutrition in collaboration with Alumni Association of College of Community Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and Ludhiana Chapter of Indian Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (IAPEN), celebrated International Yoga Day 2023 with the national goal of “Har Aangan Yoga.” The day was observed with the designated theme “Vasudaiva Kutumbakam,” which beautifully captures our aspirations for “One Earth, One Family and One Future.” More than 100 students and faculty of the college benefitted from the session.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr Satbir Singh Gosal motivated the students to practice yoga daily as it creates harmony between mind, body and nature, restraint and fulfilment, thought and action; and is a comprehensive approach to holistic health and wellbeing.

Sumit Nagpal, Internationally Certified Yoga Instructor from Samskaras Yogashala, Ludhiana conducted a very interesting session. He emphasized on 'Yoga' as 'Body, Mind and Soul' connection and not merely a physical exercise. Pranayam, stretching exercises and laughter yoga were the highlights of the session as he strongly believed in 'Mindful Wellness'- the way forward to create and live life in harmony.

Dr Kiranjot Sidhu, Dean, College of Community Science, emphasized that practicing yoga in student life can lead to better concentration, enhanced memory and confidence, improved interpersonal relationships, better sleep quality and overall positive attitude towards life.

Dr Kiran Grover, Head, Department of Food and Nutrition, shared that good nutrition and yoga work together to balance mind and body, supporting mental and physical wellbeing at the same time. She further added that this combination can help in management of stress in daily life, increase energy level, improve digestion and detoxification of body leading to improved immunity system and health. So, everyone should have balanced diet and do yoga regularly, added she.
