PAU celebrates national girl child day
The Department of Human Development and Family Studies, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), celebrated National Girl Child Day at Government Senior Secondary School, Isewal, Ludhiana, by organizing poster making competition. Held under the supervision and guidance of Head of the Department Dr Seema Sharma, a total of 35 students participated in the programme.
Ludhiana, January 24, 2024: The Department of Human Development and Family Studies, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), celebrated National Girl Child Day at Government Senior Secondary School, Isewal, Ludhiana, by organizing poster making competition. Held under the supervision and guidance of Head of the Department Dr Seema Sharma, a total of 35 students participated in the programme.
Dr Asha Chawla, Principal Scientist, and Dr Rashmi Upreti, Extension Scientist, delivered a talk on ‘Empowering girls empowers society’. Experts emphasized on the fact that educating a girl positively impacted not just her life but the lives of those around her. Additionally, it is also important that girls be provided with a safe and secure environment, she said.
Experts also discussed the objectives of ‘National Girl Child Day’ i.e. promoting gender equality, empowering girls and protecting girls' rights. Thereafter, students showcased their creativity, ideas and innovativeness through posters on the topic ‘Beti Bacha, Beti Padao.’
The Principal Incharge of the School appreciated the efforts of PAU experts in sensitizing and spreading awareness about girls' education and major problems/issues to foster their empowerment. At last, the programme concluded with prize distribution and vote of thanks.
