PAU educates rural women and youth about healthy diet and farm practices
The Skill Development Centre, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), celebrated World Health Day in which 45 members of ladies wing of PAU Kisan Club participated.
Ludhiana, April 11, 2022: The Skill Development Centre, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), celebrated World Health Day in which 45 members of ladies wing of PAU Kisan Club participated.
Dr Kuldeep Singh , Associate Director (Skill Development), informed that the programme was designed specifically for the rural women to educate them about healthy diet.
Dr Rupinder Kaur Toor, Coordinator of the ladies wing of the club, apprised the women members of the degree and diploma programmes being offered at PAU.
Dr Jaswinder Brar, a food and nutrition expert, delivered a talk on “Saadi dharti, saadi sehat” (our land, our health).
Dr Manmeet Manav, an expert, explained about AGMARK certification. She urged the women to form self-help groups, work hard and utilize their talent by preparing homemade food products, and go for self-marketing for profitability.
A yoga camp was also organised, where Mr Naresh Joshi and Ms Preeti, yoga experts from Rishikesh, threw light on yoga asanas, pranayam and their significance.
Besides, an education visit of the young farmers, who had acquired three-month training in integrated crop production at PAU, was organised. As many as 60 rural youths visited Skill Development Centre, beekeeping farm, mushroom farm, Food Industry Business Incubation Centre, Processing and Food Engineering department at PAU.
Dr Ashok Kumar, Director of Extension Education, highlighted that more than 93 per cent of wheat crop area in Punjab was under PAU developed varieties. Referring to crop residue management technologies, he told that machines like Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, Smart Seeder and PAU Straw Management System contributed in the management of paddy stubble in Punjab.
Dr Kuldeep Singh advised the youth to take advantage of the scientific knowledge gained at PAU.
Earlier, while welcoming, Dr Lavleesh Garg, Extension Scientist, shared details regarding Uddam and Udaan of Punjab Agri Business Incubator (PABI) project.
Ms Kanwaljit Kaur proposed a vote of thanks.
