PAU empowers farm women
The Department of Extension Education, under the guidance of Dean, College of Agriculture, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), conducted a one-day training programme on “Women Empowerment” at village Pabbain, Ludhiana in which about 50 farm women participated.
Ludhiana, October 1, 2024: The Department of Extension Education, under the guidance of Dean, College of Agriculture, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), conducted a one-day training programme on “Women Empowerment” at village Pabbain, Ludhiana in which about 50 farm women participated.
At the outset of the programme, Dr Lakhwinder Kaur, Extension Scientist, welcomed the farm women and acquainted them with the significance of women in the society. “Women are doing commendable work not only in household activities but also in agriculture, dairy and subsidiary occupations,” she observed, while motivating the trainees to form Sel- Help groups for enhancing family income.
Dr Shivani Rana, Scientist, Department of Resource Management and Consumer Science, demonstrated the process of candle making and explained how the trainees could make use of this skill for commercial purpose to generate additional income and support their families. Besides, PAU literature was also distributed among the farm women.
Dipanshu, a group leader, illustrated the process of baking cakes at home and provided tips for creating delicious treats.
Rupinder Kaur and Shainjot Kaur shared information about various training courses being offered by the Skill Development Center and emphasized the importance of the upcoming training sessions specifically designed for them.
Mehak Kaushal, Jannat, and Jahnvi Thakur displayed various stalls, highlighting a range of food products and demonstrating advancements in food processing, preservation, and nutritional benefits. The kitchen garden kits presented by them offered sustainable solutions for growing fresh vegetables at home.
Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education, appreciated the valuable efforts of both students and faculty, emphasizing the urgent need to equip farm women with essential skills to enhance their quality of life.
