PAU-FASC Sangrur hosts village-level camp on integrated pest and disease management
The Punjab Agricultural University's Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC) in Sangrur organized a village-level camp focused on integrated pest and disease management in paddy and basmati crops, along with the importance of soil testing, at Bakshiwala. The event saw the participation of over 30 farmers from the region.
Ludhiana, August 27, 2024: The Punjab Agricultural University's Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC) in Sangrur organized a village-level camp focused on integrated pest and disease management in paddy and basmati crops, along with the importance of soil testing, at Bakshiwala. The event saw the participation of over 30 farmers from the region.
Dr. Ashok Kumar, District Extension Scientist (Soil Science), provided guidelines on managing pests and diseases in paddy and basmati crops. He emphasized the importance of using insecticides only when pest populations exceed the Economic Threshold Levels (ETLs) to avoid unnecessary chemical usage. Dr. Kumar also stressed the need for soil testing before applying chemical fertilizers and demonstrated the proper method of soil sampling.Additionally, Dr. Kumar highlighted the role of biofertilizer consortia in enhancing wheat cultivation.
The camp featured an informative display of PAU literature and various agricultural products, including mineral mixtures, bypass fat, UMMB (Urea Molasses Mineral Block), fruit fly traps, and winter vegetable kits.Farmers’ queries on topics such as soil and water analysis, benefits of mineral mixtures, sheath blight treatment, and the use of potassium nitrate in paddy were effectively addressed during the camp. Attendees were also informed about the upcoming PAU Kisan Melas.The camp was organized with the support of progressive farmers from the village, including Sh. Gurdeep Singh, Pardeep Singh, Surjit Singh, and Jathedar Ji. The participating farmers expressed their gratitude to the organizers and voiced their hope for more such informative camps in the future.
