PAU granted Indian Patent for producing low-alcoholic debittered beverage
An Indian patent number 421977 titled “A mutant yeast strain for producing low-alcoholic debittered beverage” has been granted to Dr Parampal Sahota, Principal Microbiologist-cum-University Librarian (retd.) and Dr Sakshi Sharma, Department of Microbiology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).
Ludhiana, May 24, 2023: An Indian patent number 421977 titled “A mutant yeast strain for producing low-alcoholic debittered beverage” has been granted to Dr Parampal Sahota, Principal Microbiologist-cum-University Librarian (retd.) and Dr Sakshi Sharma, Department of Microbiology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).
Dr SS Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, congratulated the department for getting the 6th patent. Dr Shammi Kapoor, Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities; and Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research, also conveyed their best wishes to Dr Sahota and Dr Sharma for this achievement.
Dr GS Kocher, Principal Microbiologist-cum-Head, Department of Microbiology, while congratulating the scientists, informed that this patented process on production of low alcoholic debittered beverages will provide an impetus to the entrepreneurs in economizing beverage production from fruits.
Dr Sahota informed that the patented technology deals with a mutant strain of Clavispora lusitaniae, for producing a low-alcoholic, debittered beverage.
