PAU holds training and certification programme on food safety

Ludhiana, February 5, 2025: The Food Science and Technology Department of Punjab Agricultural University, successfully organized a Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) programme under the purview of FSSAI. The training aimed to enhance awareness and understanding of food safety protocols, hygiene and sanitation maintenance in food manufacturing premises, and adoption of good manufacturing practices. The programme imparted high-value training to the participants on food manufacturing and handling. The training experienced a huge and enthusiastic response from the participants, who delved into various facets of food safety and standards during this training.

Dr Narinder Kaur, an authorized FoSTaC trainer and expert in food safety and quality, imparted the training and said that the training sessions were designed to provide participants with practical knowledge and the latest advancements in food safety, hygiene, and quality control practices.

The Department of Food Science and Technology, one of the impanelled partners registered with FSSAI, has been organizing the FoSTaC training regularly to enhance the availability of skilled/ trained manpower in the food industry, informed Dr Savita Sharma, Head of the Department. Dr Savita Sharma emphasized the importance of these training programmes in view of frequently emerging food poisoning outbreaks, health hazards, and faulty food preparation habits, and accentuated the need to organize of such training programmes for training of personnels involved in food handling, food preparation, and food distribution to safeguard public health.

Dr Neha Babbar, Dr Vikas Kumar, Dr Hanuman Bobade and Dr Antima Gupta coordinated this training programme. The participants mentioned that the knowledge and skills they have gained in this training will benefit them not only in their careers but also in day-to-day life.
