PAU holds training course on agro-forestry practice for economic and environmental benefits: Expert
A five-day training course on “Agro-forestry through Tree Nursery and Maintenance of Plants” was organized by the Skill Development Centre at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). The course, which was organised in collaboration with the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources of PAU, saw the participation of nine farmers and farm women of Punjab.
Ludhiana, June 19, 2023: A five-day training course on “Agro-forestry through Tree Nursery and Maintenance of Plants” was organized by the Skill Development Centre at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). The course, which was organised in collaboration with the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources of PAU, saw the participation of nine farmers and farm women of Punjab.
Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director (Skill Development), informed that the course was conducted in view of the pressing challenges of depletion of natural resources and climate change that were being faced in the present times as well as posing a serious threat to the flora and fauna of the state. Making a call for crop diversification, she said that it was a dire need to take out Punjab from water-climate crisis.
Dr Lavleesh Garg, Extension Scientist and Course Coordinator, highlighted that agro-forestry provided economic as well as environmental benefits.
Resources persons including Dr RIS Gill, Dr HS Sarlach, Dr Baljeet Singh, Dr Parminder Singh, Dr Arhsdeep Kaur, Dr Sapna Thakur, Dr RK Garg, Dr AK Dhakkar, Dr Navneet Kaur and district agro-forestry officer shared their experiences with the trainees and dwelt upon clone nursery of Safeda.
