Ludhiana, May 11, 2023: On the eve of ‘Dooji Punjab Sarkar-Kisan Milni,’ Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, the Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, hosted a dinner meeting to welcome the NRI farmers who are participating in the ‘NRI Farmers’ Conclave – Experience Exchange for Punjab Farmers’ Welfare’ – an important component of the second Punjab Government-Farmers Meet. The officers of the university also graced the occasion.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. S. S. Gosal remarked that these NRI farmers have ventured beyond their native soil and embarked on a journey to foreign lands, braving countless challenges. They underscore the importance of innovation, adaptation, and resilience in achieving success in farming, he added.
Dr Gosal listed several issues that plague today’s agriculture and hoped that the churning of ideas during the NRI Conclave would offer realistic solutions. Leapfrogging to a sustainable and circular bioeconomy necessitates assimilation of inputs from diverse sources and stakeholders, including the Punjabi diaspora who have scripted success stories in the face of monumental challenges like stressed water resources, climate change, etc., he reasoned.
The galaxy of successful NRI farmers was pleased to be a part of this event and expressed their optimism about the potential of the conclave to come up with effective answers to the challenges faced by agriculture. Appreciating the initiative taken by the university in bringing together diverse stakeholders to address the issues, they agreed that the predicaments faced by farmers are similar across the globe, and it's essential to come up with innovative fixes to overcome them.
The event promises to be a significant step towards sustainable agriculture serving as a platform for farmers to network, exchange ideas and learn from each other.
