PAU invents new technology in name of Straw Chopper

Kapurthala, October 10, 2013: To stop air pollution due to burning of bio-mass the agriculture scientists after many experiments came up with new inventions such as Zero-Drill, Rotavater, Happy seeder and Straw Chopper for the farmers on which Punjab Government is providing 50 % subsidy.

Disclosing this here today, DS Mangat said that Punjab Agriculture University has now invented new technology in the name of Straw Chopper which crushes the paddy waste and easily dissolves it into the soil.

Mangat said that district Agriculture department held 10 exhibitions of this machine during the year 2012-13 and wheat in 43 acres and potato in 8 acres were sowed with Straw Chopper without burning the paddy waste. In the initial phase district administration from District Innovative Funds with Rs 7 Lakh making some amendments in the machine gave 6 Straw Choppers to the farmer groups through token share.

Deputy Commissioner said that this year target of 1000 acres is fixed to sow wheat with this technology. He added that Punjab Government would provide 50 Straw Choppers on 50 % subsidy to the farmers.

Mangat said that disposal of bio-mass without burning is a serious issue in the state and Punjab Government is seriously working for the safe disposal of bio-mass without burning therefore 50% subsidy is being provided on such new machines which are helpful in direct sowing.  He added that Punjab Agriculture University is also working on this front to provide alternative scientific means for the disposal of paddy waste. www.cityairnews.com
