PAU- KVK Fatehgarh Sahib organises village-level awareness camp on sustainable crop residue management

Ludhiana, October 30, 2024: Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Fatehgarh Sahib, hosted a village-level awareness camp on effective crop residue management on October 30, 2024, at Rampur. The camp, part of the "Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization for In-Situ Management of Crop Residue in Punjab" project, supported by ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, Ludhiana, was attended by 70 local farmers. It aimed to equip farmers with advanced methods for managing paddy straw and optimizing their fields for the upcoming Rabi crop.

The programme was led by Dr. V.K. Rampal, Associate Director (Training), and Dr. Amanpreet Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), with expert contributions from Dr. Reet Verma, Assistant Professor (Entomology). The sessions covered sustainable weed and pest management practices, emphasizing the use of advanced agricultural machinery like happy seeders, super seeders, surface seeders, and PAU smart seeders. The interactive format allowed for direct knowledge transfer between experts and farmers.

Dr. V.K. Rampal underscored KVK’s role in promoting eco-friendly agricultural techniques, and the camp concluded with a commitment to sustainable crop residue management, setting a strong example for future agricultural initiatives in the region
