PAU-KVK Gurdaspur organises vocational training on seed production for farmers and youth

PAU- Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Gurdaspur, conducted a five-day vocational training programme on "Seed Production of Field Crops" aimed at equipping farmers and youth with technical skills to produce quality seeds, providing an additional source of income and employment. A total of 18 participants attended the training, which included expert lectures, interactive sessions, and a visit to a seed processing plant for hands-on experience.

Ludhiana, October 25, 2024: PAU- Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Gurdaspur, conducted a five-day vocational training programme on "Seed Production of Field Crops" aimed at equipping farmers and youth with technical skills to produce quality seeds, providing an additional source of income and employment. A total of 18 participants attended the training, which included expert lectures, interactive sessions, and a visit to a seed processing plant for hands-on experience.

Dr. Sarbjit Singh Aulakh, Associate Director (Training), KVK Gurdaspur, welcomed the participants and emphasized the potential of seed production as a profitable supplementary occupation for farmers. He also highlighted the various vocational programmes offered by KVK to encourage farmers to adopt income-generating activities.

Dr. Anil Khokhar, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) and training coordinator, discussed the critical role of quality seeds in boosting crop productivity and outlined the agricultural practices necessary for successful seed production. Dr. Harpal Singh Randhawa, Director of the Regional Station, Gurdaspur, shared insights into the station's facilities and the importance of eco-friendly pest management.

Dr. Arvinder Toor, Oilseed Breeder, briefed the participants on seed production techniques for oilseed crops, while Dr. Rajwinder Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), provided guidance on managing pests and diseases in field crops. Sh. Nitin Kumar, Seed Certification Assistant, gave practical training on the SATHI seed portal and explained the procedures for obtaining seed producer and seller licenses under the Seed Act of 1966.

The training concluded with a visit to the seed farm and processing plant.
