PAU- KVK Kapurthala expands beekeeping training to CRPF personnel
PAU—Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kapurthala, conducted a five-day vocational training programme on "Introductory Beekeeping" from October 7 to 11. The training saw participation from 15 CRPF personnel stationed in Kapurthala and three local participants from Kapurthala and Jalandhar villages.
Ludhiana, October 14, 2024: PAU—Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kapurthala, conducted a five-day vocational training programme on "Introductory Beekeeping" from October 7 to 11. The training saw participation from 15 CRPF personnel stationed in Kapurthala and three local participants from Kapurthala and Jalandhar villages.
Dr Harinder Singh, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Kapurthala, emphasized the importance of beekeeping as a supplementary occupation and encouraged participants to adopt it on a small scale to meet domestic honey needs and explore entrepreneurial opportunities.
The training began with a pre-test to gauge the participants' baseline knowledge. Dr. Suman Kumari, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), led sessions on various beekeeping topics, including honey bee species identification, seasonal management, pest and disease control, honey extraction, and beekeeping economics. Practical demonstrations were conducted on handling bee hives, feeding bees, and preparing bee frames during adverse conditions.
Manpreet Kaur, Horticulture Development Officer, informed the trainees about state government schemes and subsidies for beekeeping. The trainees engaged in discussions with experts and expressed interest in advanced training for commercial-scale beekeeping.
The programme concluded with a post-test to evaluate the participants, followed by a valedictory ceremony attended by Commanding Officer Brij Lal (SSP rank), who praised PAU and the KVK team for their valuable contribution to equipping CRPF soldiers with practical and informative beekeeping skills.
