PAU-KVK Ropar concludes training on nursery production of agroforestry trees
Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (PAU-KVK), Ropar, successfully conducted a week-long vocational training programme on ‘Nursery Production of Agroforestry Trees’ from January 17 to 23, 2025. Organized under the aegis of PAU, Ludhiana, and ICAR ATARI Zone 1 Ludhiana, the training witnessed the participation of 14 farmers and rural youth from Ropar and neighbouring districts.
Ludhiana, January 23, 2025: Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (PAU-KVK), Ropar, successfully conducted a week-long vocational training programme on ‘Nursery Production of Agroforestry Trees’ from January 17 to 23, 2025. Organized under the aegis of PAU, Ludhiana, and ICAR ATARI Zone 1 Ludhiana, the training witnessed the participation of 14 farmers and rural youth from Ropar and neighbouring districts.
Dr. Satbir Singh, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Ropar, emphasized the economic potential of agroforestry, particularly the cultivation of poplar, which is in high demand for its market value and financial viability. He encouraged participants to adopt poplar nursery production as a profitable enterprise.
Dr. Ankurdeep Preety, Assistant Professor (Agroforestry), delivered comprehensive sessions on the propagation, cultivation, and management techniques for raising poplar nurseries and other agroforestry species like eucalyptus, melia, and shisham. Participants received hands-on training, including preparing poplar cuttings, planting techniques, pruning, irrigation and fertilizer management, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices, and marketing strategies.
