PAU KVK Ropar organised awareness program for school students to combat paddy residue burning
Punjab Agricultural University's Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ropar as a part of its ongoing crop residue management campaign organized an awareness programme on November 8, 2024, at Govt. Senior Secondary Smart School, Gardley with participation of over 105 students. The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Satbir Singh, Deputy Director (Trg.) for facilitating the school students to discourage the harmful practice of paddy residue burning.
Ludhiana, November 8, 2024: Punjab Agricultural University's Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ropar as a part of its ongoing crop residue management campaign organized an awareness programme on November 8, 2024, at Govt. Senior Secondary Smart School, Gardley with participation of over 105 students. The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Satbir Singh, Deputy Director (Trg.) for facilitating the school students to discourage the harmful practice of paddy residue burning.
Dr. Sanjeev Ahuja, Associate Professor (Horticulture), addressed students, highlighting the detrimental effects of crop residue burning on human health and the environment. He emphasized the students for in-situ management of paddy residue through use of various machinery.
Dr. Urvi Sharma, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) and Mrs Manpreet Kaur (Demonstarion, Home Science) aids in activities viz. declamation, essay writing, and painting competitions, which engaged students exploring the environmental and other ill-effects of residue burning. The whole hearted participation and enthusiastic performance of students was witnessed, and winners were awarded.
