PAU organises awareness camp on millets
An awareness camp on “Millets and its Benefits” was jointly organised by the Department of Extension Education and Communication Management as well as the Department of Apparel and Textile Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), in the village Swaddi Kalan, Ludhiana under “Shree Anna (Millet) Gram Programme” being run by the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) - Women in Agriculture (WIA).
Ludhiana, May 9, 2023: An awareness camp on “Millets and its Benefits” was jointly organised by the Department of Extension Education and Communication Management as well as the Department of Apparel and Textile Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), in the village Swaddi Kalan, Ludhiana under “Shree Anna (Millet) Gram Programme” being run by the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) - Women in Agriculture (WIA). Around 30 farm women participated in the camp.
Dr Ritu Mittal Gupta, Scientist, AICRP-WIA, enlightened the participants about nutritional importance of millets and encouraged them to incorporate millet-based foods in their diet.
Dr Sumeet Grewal, Scientist, AICRP-WIA, encouraged farmers to go for sustainable production of millets and their processing for marketing.
Participants were also motivated for kitchen gardening and roof top gardens for nutritional security of their families. Farm women from the village showed keen interest in the training programme and urged for imparting more trainings in millets in future.
The Sarpanch of the village, Lal Singh appreciated the efforts of PAU experts for spreading awareness regarding millets.
