PAU organises herbal soap making training for farm women in Akalgarh
Under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Women in Agriculture (AICRP-WIA), the Department of Resource Management & Consumer Science (RMCS) at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) conducted a hands-on training session on "Herbal Soap Making" in Akalgarh village, Ludhiana, on Friday. Thirty-five farm women participated, learning the process from sourcing raw materials to crafting lightly scented herbal soaps.
Ludhiana, October 18, 2024: Under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Women in Agriculture (AICRP-WIA), the Department of Resource Management & Consumer Science (RMCS) at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) conducted a hands-on training session on "Herbal Soap Making" in Akalgarh village, Ludhiana, on Friday. Thirty-five farm women participated, learning the process from sourcing raw materials to crafting lightly scented herbal soaps.
Dr Shivani Rana, a Scientist at AICRP-WIA, welcomed the participants and shared insights on the monetary benefits of making herbal soaps at home, emphasizing the potential for selling them at premium prices. She also discussed the entrepreneurial opportunities available to women, providing practical financial information to help them start their businesses.
Additionally, Dr Rana led an awareness activity on the "Eradication of Parthenium" under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign at Masidwala Gurdwara, Akalgarh. She informed the farm women about the harmful effects of Parthenium on human and animal health, crop yields, and biodiversity.
The participants expressed gratitude for the valuable training and showed interest in future sessions, with many eager to launch their herbal soap enterprises.
